George Ezra’s new album ‘Staying At Tamara’s’ has become the fastest-selling album of 2018 with 63,000 sales during the first week of release. Having shot straight to the top of the UK charts, the album is yet another addition to a long list of awards and plaudits for this BIMM Bristol alumnus.

George – who was discovered at a BIMM Bristol showcase – joins a long list of successful BIMM stars, including BRIT award-winners James Bay and Tom Odell. It was here at BIMM that he caught the attention of management company Closer Artists – home of John Newman and James Morrison – before signing to Columbia Records. Since then, he’s toured all over the world, played Glastonbury’s iconic Pyramid Stage and scored three UK top ten singles with Budapest, Blame It On Me and – more recently – Paradise, which currently sits at number two.

Speaking to the Official Charts Company, the Hertford-born troubadour said: “It’s incredible to think that the album is now out and in people’s cars, homes and soundtracking people’s lives. For it to have made it to number one is so amazing! I still can’t quite get my head around it.”

The follow-up to George’s debut No 1 album Wanted on Voyage in 2014, Staying at Tamara’s has had the industry talking after knocking The Greatest Showman soundtrack off the top spot. The movie score had enjoyed eleven consecutive weeks at number one and still holds the longest unbeaten stretch, alongside Adele’s 21.

Staying At Tamara’s has received rave reviews across the UK and in Europe too, with everyone from the NME to Ireland’s Hot Press weighing in on George’s breezy nods to summer and sing-along anthems. Also commenting in Music Week – president of George’s record label Columbia Records UK – Ferdy Unger Hamilton, said: “George has worked incredibly hard to make this album, so it’s amazing to see him achieve a No 1. It’s great that it has sold so many in its first week, but I really think we will be with this record all year and well into 2019.”

George recently launched his own podcast series, George Ezra & Friends, which debuted at No 1 on iTunes. His guests have so far included Ed Sheeran, Rag & Bone Man, Craig David and Jess Ware. As George explained: ‘What started as a labour of love and somewhat of a passion project, is shaping up to be one of the best and fulfilling projects I’ve ever been a part of.”

With his latest chart-topping album and podcast – plus his sold-out Brixton 02 Academy gig, a full UK and Ireland tour and major festivals – George Ezra is genuinely flying high.
