James Bay wows the Grammys audience

Alumni Success

BIMM Brighton alumnus James Bay blew everyone away at the 58th Grammy Awards with an absolutely stunning live performance!

James, together with fellow Grammy nominee Tori Kelly, performed a medley of their songs including Let It Go and Hollow respectively, having being introduced to the stage by actress Anna Kendrick.

James & Tori’s performance stood out in particular from the other acts on the Hollywood stage because it was just Tori and James stood on a circular platform amongst the audience, singing beautiful stripped-down versions of their songs on acoustic guitars. Other Grammy performers included Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Adele, Ellie Goulding, The Weeknd and Lady Gaga.

James was was nominated for Best Rock Album, with Chaos and the Calm and Best Rock Song for Hold Back the River with Iain Archer as well as Best New Artist.

Images of James – and clips of his Grammy performance – are all over numerous US publications. As they’ve reported, the soulful singer was born in the small English town of Hitchin, Hertfordshire and was inspired to play guitar after hearing Eric Clapton’s Layla at the age of 11. It was 7 years later that he moved to Brighton to study at BIMM.

We at BIMM can’t help being just a little proud of our former student!
