Mark O’Connor
Principal Lecturer
Mark coordinates the research and academic learning arc across the BA Hons. Commercial Modern Music programme, spanning modules in music teaching practice, professional and final-year projects, and research methods — supporting students from first enquiry through to independent research practice. He also teaches across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at BIMM Dublin.
Alongside his teaching, Mark is a postgraduate scholar at Trinity College Dublin, researching experiential learning through the lens of active inference and agential realist ontology. His academic interests centers on practice-as-method pedagogies and new-materialist approaches to music education, treating music-making itself as a legitimate form of enquiry.
As a performing musician, Mark works as a guitarist across a range of professional live acts and composes orchestral and hybrid concept work. He identifies as an a/r/tographer — artist, researcher, and teacher in one integrated practice — and brings this same spirit of experiential, reflective enquiry into the classroom, helping students develop as confident, self-directed practitioners and industry agents.
